U.S. SUBMITS ENTRIES FOR LONDON OLYMPICS, INCLUDING THE TUG-OF-WAR TEAM: The names of 135 male athletes have been forwarded to authorities in London yesterday -- as the official list of competitors for the Olympic Games. The names were submitted at 6 p.m. yesterday, according to today's New York Times. The paper goes hyperbolic in its description of the team, callin it "the greatest gathering of athletes under one flag in the world's athlegtic history." The group includes an 8-man "Tug of War" team, which includes SIX alternates. (The photo above shows one of the teams in competition in the London Olympics.)

JAPANESE FARM WORKERS STONED AND ASSAULTED IN CALIFORNIA: In California, there are too many workers eager to help harvest CANTALOUPES. That meant trouble yesterday for a group of Japanese workers who were riding in a wagon in the town of El Centro in the Imperial Valley (shown above in 1913). According to today's New York Times, "a number of young men" flipped the wagon over, spilling the workers onto the ground. In addition, a group of Japanese workers were STONED at the railroad station. Other Jpanese workers were reportedly threatened in Brawley.
